Fine Chamotte Clay

This versatile chamotte clay is perfect for modeling, whether you let your piece dry naturally or bake it in the oven. Thanks to the fine chamotte (grain size max. 0.02" (0.5 mm), the clay is more porous, allowing it to dry and bake gradually – ideal for a stable and beautiful result. The standard firing temperature is between 1828 °F and 2368 °F (980 °C and 1280 °C). The red variant contains as much as 40% chamotte, making it suitable for extra hard firing up to 2372 °F (1300 °C).

Clay remains pliable for at least a week after opening. If you store it airtight in our clay bucket, it stays soft and workable for much longer. If the clay dries out, simply add water to make it workable again – up to a minimum firing temperature of 1112 °F (600 °C).

Chamotte gives clay stability and prevents excessive shrinkage during firing. It also ensures a regular shape and makes the surface more porous, allowing air to escape more easily. Note: the chamotte requires a bit more strength when modeling, making this clay less suitable for very young children.

This fine chamotte clay 0-0,02" (0–0.5 mm) is popular with both hobbyists and professional ceramists. With its excellent workability and firing quality, it provides a reliable base for detailed designs.

Available in white and yellow/red.

Tip: clay cannot withstand frost; transport is therefore not possible during freezing conditions.
